Mental Health Awareness Month

Embracing Mental Health Awareness Month with Project SAFE

May is a special month for us at Project SAFE as it marks Mental Health Awareness Month. This observance, established in 1949 by Mental Health America, serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of mental health and the need for support and resources for those facing mental health challenges. At Project SAFE, we are dedicated to empowering individuals and families to make healthy choices and improve their overall functioning through a variety of therapeutic approaches.

The Importance of Mental Health Awareness

Mental health is just as important as physical health, yet it often does not receive the attention it deserves. Mental Health Awareness Month aims to change that by increasing understanding and reducing the stigma associated with mental health issues. This month, we encourage everyone to take time to reflect on their mental well-being, seek help if needed, and support others who may be struggling.

Our Commitment to Mental Health

Project SAFE opened its doors in 2003 with the mission of helping individuals and families identify the best choices for healthy functioning. Our clients benefit from improved mental health in their social, academic, work, and family environments through the successful problem-solving strategies they learn during counseling sessions. Conveniently located in south Old Town at 665 S. Washington Street, we offer individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy to meet the diverse needs of our clients.

Comprehensive Therapeutic Approaches

We understand that each individual is unique, which is why we employ a variety of therapeutic strategies to tailor our services to each client’s specific needs. Our approaches include:

  • Person-Centered Therapy: Focusing on the client's ability to self-direct their growth.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with mindfulness and distress tolerance: Helping clients identify and change negative thought patterns.

  • Behavioral Therapy: Addressing problematic behaviors through reinforcement strategies.

  • Mindfulness: Promoting present-moment awareness and relaxation techniques.

  • Psycho-education: Educating clients about their mental health conditions.

  • Family Systems Therapy: Focusing on family dynamics to improve overall family functioning.

Our Offerings

We provide a range of therapy options to suit different needs, including:

  • Individual Therapy: One-on-one sessions tailored to the client's personal needs.

  • Group Therapy: Facilitated group sessions that provide support and shared experiences.

  • Family Therapy: Sessions designed to improve family dynamics and relationships.
